Big Meech managed to amass a massive $100,000+ million at the peak of his business. However, after the law brought his entire empire to the ground, his current net worth hangs around $500,000.

What happened? And Why did the law enforcement take Big Meech into custody? Here’s the whole story.

Big Meech’s Early Life

Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory was born on June 21, 1968, in Detroit, Michigan. In movies, Detroit is often portrayed as a city of hardships, and while it’s not as exaggerated as it is in movies, life there can get rough pretty quickly.

Because of that, Meech was exposed to the realities of street life from a young age. He started his foray into the drug trade when he was only a teenager. The situation got even worse because he was doing so with his brother, Terry “Southwest Tee” Flenory, so there really wasn’t any helping hand there.

They quickly transitioned from selling $50 bags of cocaine to establishing a small drug empire that later became known as the Black Mafia Family or BMF.

Building a Drug Empire

The Flenory brothers’ ambition knew no bounds. They expanded their operations beyond Detroit, setting up hubs in major cities like Atlanta and Los Angeles. Both cities later became the primary hubs of the BMF. This “expansion” allowed them to tap into bigger markets and even establish some connections with the Mexican drug cartels.

By the late 1990s, BMF had established a sophisticated cocaine distribution network that extended across multiple states. Big Meech managed the Atlanta operations, overseeing distribution, while Terry handled incoming shipments from Mexico in Los Angeles.

Reports suggest that BMF was moving over 2,500 kilograms of cocaine each month at its peak, generating revenues estimated at over $270 million between 1989 and 2005. They kept their operations hidden by using a family-owned car service to transport drugs discreetly across state lines.

Every 10 days, vehicles would arrive loaded with 100 to 150 kilograms of cocaine hidden in secret compartments. Distributors would place orders through phone calls, indicating they had a vehicle ready for pickup. Depending on their order size, they would be directed to specific stash houses to complete transactions in cash bundles. Sounds like a TV show, doesn’t it?

The BMF was actually made into a TV series called Black Mafia Family in 2021. As of writing, there are three seasons of the TV show, with Demetrius Flenory Jr. (Yes, Big Meech’s actual son, sometimes known as Lil Meech) portraying his father.

A Deeper Look Into Lil Meech

Demetrius Flenory Jr. was born on April 22, 2000, in Miami, Florida. His mother is Latarra Eutsey, who had a relationship with Big Meech during the height of his criminal activities with the BMF.

Big Meech and Latarra Eutsey lived together in Detroit before relocating to Miami around the time of their son’s birth. The couple maintained a stable family environment despite Meech’s involvement in illegal activities.

Fortunately, Demetrius decided that a life of crime wasn’t for him. Instead, he focused on building his career as a rapper and actor. Also, he had no participation in his father’s illegal activity. We’re happy to see that the kid came clean out of this.

End of an Era

By the early 2000s, the relationship between the Flenory brothers had soured significantly. Their once-cohesive partnership began to fracture due to differing management styles and personal rivalries. This tension led to a schism within BMF, with Terry relocating to Los Angeles to manage his own faction while Big Meech remained in Atlanta.

These internal troubles drew too much attention toward the organization, including the eye of the law. It wasn’t long until the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) launched Operation Motor City Mafia.

This operation was the knock-out blow, surfacing over 900 pages of wiretapped conversations, and leading to the arrest of 30 members of the BMF, including Big Meech. Additionally, over $21 million worth of assets, including cash, vehicles, and jewelry were seized. It really was a knock-out blow.

Big Meech was sentenced to 30 years in prison, which later got reduced to 20. He’s been serving it since then and is expected to complete his term under supervision on January 27, 2026.

Final Words

Crime never pays, and even if it does, it’s dirty money, a lesson that Big Meech spent nearly 20 years in prison thinking about. We’re not sure what kind of career he’s going to lead once he gets out, but with a current $500,000 net worth, he really doesn’t need to go back to crime.
