Karol G’s Rise to Fame
Carolina was born on February 14, 1991, in Medellin, Colombia. After graduating high school, Karol G studied music at the University of Antioquia. However, her ambition led her to New York City, where she further immersed herself in the music scene.
Her love of singing quickly resurfaced when she started uploading videos of her singing. Still, her first notable appearance on camera was when she auditioned for the Colombian version of the X Factor in 2006.
Karol may not have won the X factor at the time, but she got a taste of the industry’s requirements and made herself known as a potential future star.
In the early 2010s, Karol started collaborating with well-known Colombian reggaeton artists like Reyton. This period was a kickstart for her career, as it helped her gain recognition within the Colombian music industry.
However, her first breakthrough hit was in 2017 when she collaborated with Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny on the song Ahora Me Llama (Now He Calls Me in English).
The song became a massive hit and acted as a propeller for her debut album “Unstoppable,” released in the same year.
Two years later, in 2019, Karol G released her album “Ocean,” a bit more relaxed and laid back than “Unstoppable.”
It did, however, retain her reggaeton roots. The album’s lead single, “Tusa,” Album’sing Nicki Minaj, became a global phenomenon, topping the charts and raising Karol’s name to fame even more.
The song was No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs, and it was the first time for a female-led song since 2016.
Karol G’s Awards and Achievements
Only two years after her No.1 hit, Karol was given the “Best New Artist” award at the Latin Grammys in 2018. Yet another two years later, she was awarded the Favorite Latin Song 2020 American Music Award.
One year later, her song, Bichota, won the best Reggaeton performance in 2021. It doesn’t stop there; in 2023, her “Mañana Será Bonito” album won the Album of the Year award.
FiAlbum, in February 2024, Carolina once took the stage at the Grammy Awards as the Best Música Urbana Album winner.
When she took the stage, she introduced herself to the North American fans, who were unfamiliar with her yet. However, the same can’t be said for the Latin fans, as she needed no introduction. On the stage, she said: “My album has given me my best memories in my own life, my whole life.”
Being only 33 years old at the time of writing, Karol is already stockpiling awards. It doesn’t look like she’ll stop any time soon.
Karol G’s Personal Life
Not much was known about Caroline’s life before she rose to fame. But when she did, she started a relationship with a fellow singer known as Anuel AA. They were often seen together and collaborated on songs like “Culpables,” “Secreto,” and “Tu No Amas.”
However, the relationship ended in 2021 when the two artists split up. Fortunately, it was nowhere near toxic, as even after splitting up, they appeared on stage together a few times.
Karol G is in a relationship with her boyfriend Feid (real name is Salomón Villada Hoyos), just like Karol, from Medellín, Colombia. They share the talent and love for reggaeton music.
The couple knew each other back in Medellin but didn’t open up into a relationship until her Bichota tour in 2021.
When asked about their relationship, Karol said: “I love that he’s from my country and city, Medellin! I want to show the world where we come from.”
The Verdict
Carolina is one of the biggest stars in the Latin music genre. Yet, her height is a modest 1.6 m (5′ 3″). Does that bother or stop her in any way? No. Does it make her any less likable to her fans? Also no.
