The award for ‘ugliest person’ isn’t one many people aspire to get. Yet, the truth is some people have been called that their entire lives.

We all know that it’s way more fun seeing photos of beautiful people. Still, knowing who the ugliest person in the world is can be eye-opening.

Let’s get started.

What Constitutes Ugliness?

In most countries, society has certain protocols when it comes to appearances. Our brains are trained to measure a person’s degree of outer beauty. We’re also quick to point out flaws and imperfections.

Then, after we’ve made our assessment, we deal with the person accordingly.

However, we found out that there are a few countries where people hold contests, not for the most attractive person, but for the ugliest.

For example, in Zimbabwe and Uganda, there’s a contest that’s held to celebrate the beauty in ugliness. It’s become such a phenomenon that people schedule it in their calendars and line up in throngs to sign up.

The 6 Ugliest People in the World

Some of the people on this list didn’t always look the way they do now. Their ugliness is due to a disorder or rare condition.

Others sought out ways to make themselves look unappealing and unsightly to be in the limelight.

Before we talk about the six most unappealing people in the world according to various social media outlets, keep in mind that what may appear to be ugly to you may not be that hideous to someone else.

So, putting aside all subjectivity, let’s get started.

1.Godfrey Baguma

Many publications have suggested that the number one spot for the ugliest person in the world would go to Godfrey Baguma. As a child, the 53-year-old Ugandan developed a rare type of tumor, which distorted his facial features and physical body.

In 2002, Baguma entered a ‘ugliest person’ contest in his hometown to provide for his family. He won that year and every year since then. He’s now a public speaker, singer, and comedian known by his stage name “Ssebabi,” which means “ugliest of them all.”

2. Jocelyn Wildenstein

Her lavish lifestyle allowed her to get extensive cosmetic surgeries. However, despite costing her millions of dollars, they failed at making her look beautiful. Instead, they made her face look misshapen, earning her the title of ‘ugliest woman in the world.’

3. Donatella Versace

Despite being a leading fashion designer, businesswoman, and model, Donatella Versace has often been referred to as one of the ugliest women in the world.

Unfortunately, this is due to a series of cosmetic surgeries over the years that went horribly wrong.

4. Lizzie Velasquez

Lizzie Velasquez was also diagnosed with a rare congenital disease. In 2006, when she was just 17 years old, she came across a YouTube video of her as the ‘World’s Ugliest Woman.’

The hostility in the comments shocked Lizzie. Yet, rather than sit at home and mope, she used her platform to become a motivational speaker, YouTube influencer, and anti-bullying activist.

5. Michael Berryman

This disorder also results in the abnormal development of ectodermal tissue in the teeth, fingernails, and sweat glands.

6.Maison Sere

Maison Sere confidence led him to compete in Zimbabwe’s annual “Mr. Ugly” competition in 2015, a contest that celebrates the unconventional side of beauty. His stand-out features, notably his unique dental arrangement and the absence of some teeth, set him apart from the competition.

Against various contenders, Sere clinched the title of “Mr. Ugly” and was awarded $500 for his triumph.

Conclusion

The ugliest person in the world is a title earned due to rare health conditions or by choice. The latter is a bit harder to accept because they went out of their way to deform their features, whereas the former had no choice.

Nevertheless, we should note that no one has ever seen the faces of the world’s entire population. So, this list is liable to be amended at any time.
